This is a rare opportunity for a highly experienced speechwriter to shape ASIC's public narrative at the most senior levels. Working closely with the Chair, Commissioners and Executive Directors, you will produce authoritative, high‑impact speeches and strategic messaging on complex regulatory issues in a highly scrutinised environment.

The team 

ASIC's Strategy and Corporate Affairs Group (SCA) is responsible for delivering on ASIC's priorities through communications, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and coordination. The Group adopts a whole-of-ASIC approach to deliver a unified organisational strategy in line with ASIC's vision. SCA builds strategic stakeholder relationships to drive engagement and enhance the understanding of ASIC's remit. 

 

The role

As the Lead Speechwriter, you will be ASIC's lead specialist for speeches and strategic external communications, providing expert advice and communications for ASIC's Chair, and Commissioners. You will work closely with the Chair, Commissioners and executives to shape ASIC's narrative, particularly in high-visibility settings.

Your key accountabilities include:

  • Developing high-impact speeches, remarks, talking points, briefs and other strategic communications for the Chair, as well as Commissioners
  • Shaping ASIC's overarching narrative to ensure alignment with organisational priorities
  • Providing expert advice on communication strategy, reputation and stakeholder engagement and impacts
  • Engaging directly with senior internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to translate complex information and ideas into clear, persuasive messages
  • Liaising with senior external stakeholders to support ASIC's work
  • Managing competing deadlines and priorities while maintaining exceptional quality and judgement in a high‑pressure environment

 

About you

You are a highly experienced senior speechwriter with a strong background in strategic communications in corporate, government and/or highly regulated environments. An understanding of government policy and political environments is highly desirable.

You are widely read and curious, and bring outstanding writing, storytelling and editing skills, as well as strong media and business acumen. You have a proven ability to produce compelling, persuasive speeches and materials for senior leaders including on complex policy, regulatory, or technical issues.

You have a proven track record of emulating the ‘voice' of senior executives and the organisations they represent.

You are a trusted adviser who operates with credibility, discretion and confidence at the most senior levels. You synthesise information quickly, identify key themes, and exercise sound judgement in fast-moving situations.

You build strong relationships with executives and stakeholders, communicate with clarity and influence, and navigate ambiguity and competing expectations with professionalism, consistently delivering work of the highest standard while modelling ASIC's values of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.
