The team

The Administrative Law team is part of ASIC's in-house litigation practice.  The team is responsible for conducting Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) proceedings and Federal Court judicial review applications relating to administrative decisions made by ASIC.   The team also provides comprehensive advisory services to ASIC staff concerning administrative law matters.  The team is located within ASIC's Chief Legal Office (CLO).

 

The role

As a Senior Manager, you will be required to:

  • Manage, mentor and give direction to lawyers conducting administrative law litigation and have oversight of the matters being conducted by those lawyers
  • conduct your own matters in the AAT and Federal Court, including appearance work when required, and provide comprehensive advisory services to ASIC regarding administrative law matters
  • work collaboratively with other senior members of ASIC's CLO
  • provide advice and prepare responses to investigations being conducted by the Commonwealth Ombudsman.

 

About you

You have at least 10 to 15 years post admission experience in mid to large organisations. You also hold a Practising Certificate and are admitted to practice in the High Court, Federal Court and relevant State Supreme Court.

You possess a detailed knowledge and understanding of administrative law, practice and policy and are able to guide and coach staff members through complex scenarios.

You have a drive to make a difference by conducting a range of important and challenging administrative law litigation and helping to build ASIC's success as the national corporate, markets, financial services and consumer credit regulator.
