The team

Information Technology Services provides a wide range of IT facilities and support services to ASIC. We are embarking on major technology projects that will transform our business and continue our significant technology transformation in several areas such as virtualisation, data analytics, mobility and cloud.

The IT Security team is responsible for protecting ASIC's information and technology assets and environments, providing an IT security advisory service for ASIC and managing a security framework which applications and systems are measured in terms of compliance against government requirements.

The role

As an IT Security Engineer, you will be required to:

  • Develop and implement SRE strategies
  • Develop and implement information security practices in an operational environment
  • Operate the SOAR platform for case management and response playbooks
  • Provide in-depth analyse and Interpret the information collected by the SOAR and its integrations
  • Utilise techniques for investigating host and network-based intrusions using SOC technologies.
  • Perform required hardware updates and changes at ASIC data centres
  • Provide in-depth analysis on security architecture and make recommendations for system and environmental enhancements
  • Perform vulnerability testing, assessment and prioritisation of remediation requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance, and security issues
  • Analyse system performance and availability and provide capacity planning solutions
  • Critically analyse and interpret security policies and business requirements and proactively recommend improvements to enhance security posture and business outcomes
  • Work with the wider IT Security team to train and mentor team members in IT security


About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT is desirable
  • Strong experience in Azure Sentinel and Microsoft 365 Defender services.
  • Strong experience in AWS Cloudwatch
  • Excellent understanding and experience in Incident Response, Vulnerability Management, Security Operations or Cyber Threat Intelligence.
  • Experience in systems administration, cloud infrastructure, and networking within enterprise and government environments.
  • In-depth expertise in the Microsoft Cybersecurity Reference Architecture (MCRA).
  • Proficiency in continuous integration and continuous delivery tooling and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Site Reliability or Cloud Engineer type role within an enterprise environment
  • Passionate about working within DevOps culture, learning new technologies and automation
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with Australian Government's Information Security Manual (ISM), ASD Essential Eight, NIST, CIS and other security frameworks.
  • Proven experience working as part of a project team, in a dynamic project/program environment.
  • Technical experience in the following key areas: Sentinel, MCAS (Microsoft Cloud App Security), M365 Defender, AWS, Thycotic, multi-factor authentication, single-sign-on, and federated identities.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and be accountable for outcomes.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to clearly articulate complex security concepts to a broad and diverse audience
